So in the name of unity that so many are calling for, I will forego political correctness in this post. I'm gonna' pull a Trump and say it like it is.
The contention that political correctness in ruining America is utter and total bullshit. If you boil it down to its essence, political correctness is about respect and manners. Remember the Golden Rule folks?
When you get right down to it, the anti-pc. movement just doesn’t want to change their behavior because it would take effort. For example, let's look at the Washington Redskins. The team and their fans refuse to understand that “redskin" is a racial slur. You are using a racial slur as your team name. Not cool. Not all Indian team names are offensive, but a racial slur is. So admit your mistake. Respect that Native Americans don’t want to be called racial slurs, choose another name, sell more crap with the new name and move on.
I hear many of Trump supporters whining now that now they are being called bigots. They decry that THEY aren’t bigoted, no, they supported him for other reasons. But here's the thing, your candidate said racist, misogynistic, anti-Muslim, anti-semitic, anti-gay, anti-woman things on the regular. All his hateful crap is part of the package that you just voted for. So even if you claim that you are not racist or misogynist, if you supported him at the very least you are saying that you just don’t care about a large portion of your fellow Americans. That makes you an uncaring, selfish asshole.
Another thing, stop whining and being babies. If I call you out for your offensive speech, stop moaning that you are being persecuted because of political correctness. You cannot complain about political correctness, but then use it as a shield when someone says something that you don’t like. If you’re going to dish it out, you’d better be prepared to take it.
If you think the anti-p.c. moniker allows you to say whatever racist, misogynistic, bigoted, ugly crap that you want to without consequences, guess what? You are not some warrior against political correctness, you are simply a jackass using the anti-p.c. movement as an excuse for your bad behavior.
And quit being stupid. Many of you in the anti-p.c. movement think that the 1st amendment means that you have the freedom to say whatever you want to without recriminations. In the immortal words of President Pussy Grabber, "WRONGAH!” The 1st A limits the government’s ability to constrain the speech of citizens. The government cannot punish you for your speech (well, actually they can, but that is a topic for another day), but the 1st A has nothing, I repeat nothing, to do with your neighbors, your friends, your family, or your employers reacting to what you have said. The 1st A will not protect you from the consequences of your words. The 1st A does not protect you from shame, ridicule or criticism. So go ahead and spew away, but know that you may have to face the results of your words head on. The government cannot put you in jail but there is a strong possibility that you will lose friends and/or your job. To put it simply, the 1st amendment will not protect you from yourself.
Please people, for the love of God, learn the difference between a fact and an opinion. A fact is a statement that is verifiable. An opinion is your feeling about something. I am tired of reading statements that people claim are facts that are actually an opinion. For example, the phrases, "anyone who supports Trump is a racist, misogynistic jackass” or “any woman who would vote Republican needs therapy for self-loathing” are examples of opinions. As someone once said, one is entitled to their own opinion, but one is not entitled to their own set of facts.
Are there instances where political correctness has gone too far? Yes, but like most things that are evolving, political correctness will ebb and flow and sort itself out over time. So relax folks, political correctness is about finding ways to treat each other respectfully. That is all. Your freedoms have never been under attack because someone asked you to stop using racial slurs against them. In finding ways to treat one another with respect we will go through fits and starts. That is normal. It is not a reason to lose your ever loving minds. And it is not a reason to give the highest office in the land to an incompetent, narcissistic man with a hair trigger temper, thin skin and vengeful nature, but that is just my opinion.
